2-14:00 April Condon - Video Conferencing & ooVoo
My initial thoughts on my project was to do something very specific that would help me in the classroom. I am planning on using video conferencing to get subject matter experts in the classroom for little to no money. I thought the prefect idea would be to produce a how-to-video on how to use Holland College's own video conferencing room. The more I looked into it, I realized that the room is very hardware driven. This could be practical when talking to other educational institutes or large corporations... but that may not work for the average individual.
Mashup
a new breed of Web-based applications created by mixing at least two different services from disparate, and even competing, Web sites.
Mash up comes from the hip-hop music practice of mixing two or more songs together then with the same premise expanded to include video, pictures and web applications.

ooVoo
ooVoo is communications tool, used to help communicate with people via webcam online. You have to download ooVoo to your system to install and set up an account. Then you need to find a friend or person of interest to talk to. If you decide to do any amount of video conferencing I recommend you buy a headset. It reduces, to eliminates, feedback that occurs from simply chatting without one.
ooVoo has the capabilities to:
Presentation Topics
I am thinking about what would be most beneficial to me as a topic for presentation. I would like to create a video on how to use the video conferencing room at Holland College specifically. This is a completely selfish topic because it is something I need to know. I also think other instructors could benefit. From what I have been told, the room is under utilized. I think by removing the techno-stigma that is attached to that room, it could be put to better use.
Day Seven - A Moderate Disaster
Today was my presentation.... to sum it up in two words "technical difficulty". I felt prepared and I thought I had covered my bases, I guess not. I know technology is not a constant and you have to expect the unexpected...but good God I didn't think it would be that hard. I also feel that the techo-problems that I faced muddled my presentation. I think I could have been more focused and direct. My one hope is that the information that I did manage to communicate did make sense. I hope that it educated the class on the various video conferencing technologies available.
Skype
Skype is a video/audio realtime feed. See and hear your friend or colleague from your computer for personal dialogue or as an online guest to the classroom.
