Nancy having attended your presentation and read your comments I wish to commend you on your learning – an obvious personal stretch associated with technology, and on what you shared with our community of learners in a relaxed and effective manner.
As your critical friend I wish to commend you on the content and delivery of a new tool holding potential for our community of learners. Sharing your role, as a volunteer working with Pathway to Success, you offered us alternative ways to record and sort questions with clients on one-on–one bases. You demonstrated both the value and functionality for you by using the tool by citing the opportunity to quiz, to ask questions to your clients about prior reading, and writing experiences, elicit personal work needs, family interaction etc. The tool you identified offers an alternative easy way to record and sort questions to help improve or identify ones rationale. The site offers a simple way to create on line surveys free, holds questions, side by side responses, and will save ones collection of information for years. You also shared the tool offers a web based interface for creating and publishing custom web surveys which is a bonus and then being able to view the results graphically and in real time.
SurveyMonkey.com is a revolutionary new tool to create and publish custom surveys free in minutes. While advantages exist there are challenges as you had identified; one being an imposed limitation of a maximum of ten (10) questionnaire/survey questions. After this amount a price fee is associated with the user. As you have already identified value added thought to your work, you shared currently considering sign up with the year option which offers additional functionality and features for you. Sounds like a win win. You also mentioned your hope to start your own ‘wiki’ site to support this tool and glean better info, and ways of capturing information within the expanding environment. Certainly you have located a supportive technology piece- a tool supportive to your work process which helps you in your community.
EDdhelper.com
Another site you shared was edhelper.com; a source for trade schools, which offers options to create such fun activities as puzzles using contextual words from ones own environment etc. These activities inject fun and help us to support one to become more aware of the environments language-which we learned is necessary in any community. With the word search one is also able to incorporate scanning, reading ,vocabulary, and playfulness. I appreciated how you eengaged our learners by asking each to make a quiz (word search) by using words from their own place of work.
Strength of the presentation was being introduced to, and provided a demonstration of something new.
Something to consider and work upon for the future is to speak out more to the audience in terms of delivery content. Also you might ask the learners what functionality they identify in using this tool. In this way we co create additional meaning and interpretation with one another.
My apologies in not having tracked –cut and paste, the Q/A thru ED live chat. Dave can you help us with this recovery and sharing. In anticipation –thank you
