Leslie's reflection Monday, Day 6
I enjoyed today and learned so many things. Using the web cam during our webcast was new and great to experience. While webcasting and chatting on the edtalk site I was given alot of great sites to refer to by guests from outside the class, it sure was a quick way to get help. Here are a few of the sites I took away from the edtalk chat; www.slideshare.net - to use to upload power points and then slidecast them and view them. To print the poster we made in class use, www.zazzle.com/custom/posters - I checked the site, it looks like we have to pay for them. o upload pictures, video,or slides and then add audio or text comments use , www.voicethread.com or for examples use, voicethread4education.wikispaces.com/examples. To install something like moodle go to , http://hostmonster.com , to download a software that is blocked go to downloads.com.
I learned new words like back channelling and found out that RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, did not know that. The presenations were both great and gave me a better understanding of how to use Moodle for quizzes and Twitter and the applications. I see the benefit in my workplace. I have come to realize from this class that it is great to get the lingo and software but if we don't know the applications and the differences or benefits of one from the other we can't make very good use of them. The information is endless and most people probably find a few programs that work for them and stick with them. Class members are still having ups and downs, as am I. The classroom feeling has shifted from fear of technology to excitement and anticipation of what is to come next, because we are seeing all of the neat applications some of us had sheltered ourselves from.
The chat room was interesting, I found multitasking pretty comfortable unless I lost my spot or got behind in the learning when the presenters where presenting. Once you get behind you just have to see what everyone else is doing on their screen , take a breath and then you can usually catch up, learning in numbers is helpful. Wordle was neat and would be great for making posters, another thing I will use. When put in charge of chat info. for Jennifer, I found it was not stressful because the pace of her presentation was conducive to multitasking. I found myself making more comments, but then it wouldn't cut and paste to our blog page for some reason, even though I practiced copying with Donnie's first, it wouldn't work when my time came, so I called in the recruits and they copied using their computers. I noticed that the earliest chat info. was gone after the chat session was done, unless I was reading it wrong. I definitely see how the chat room can be great for getting a quick reply to a question posed around the world. Today covered alot of new sites and I found them all very applicable. Co-creation of knowledge is so beneficial.
My only area of concern that is taking up too much time is the project, I like to be organized and usually have things pulled together early, too many changes. I guess I am trying to accept stepping out of my comfort zone and wing it last minute.

Hi Leslie; I think stepping
Hi Leslie; I think stepping out from the comfort zone is what is it all about- taking the risk to learn something new which holds potential for us in our varied fields, and also the experience reminds us yet again of what it is like to be a student. I appreciated Durffs inquiry of what could be entertained to make it an easier transition for students, Very respectful of him and another reminder we all need assistance from one another in one way or another . It was great exposure seeing how people tapped in from their own site and just joined in giving freely of their expertise. Sort of like the old bartering system.
As for the moodle info you scripted does it cost $ to access that site ( http://hostmonster.com , )?I started reading the site and thought their was a monthly charge?
As for Wordle this was a great learn and i will use it to filter out main info from documents, and of course make posters too. I hope to demonstrate to one of the staff at work tomorrow-practice and repetition is what I need for actual learning to take place....
Must get to my presentation thoughts now.
