Day 5 Reflection
Today learning was great, when engaged with the class community and personally while working on my own. The class atmosphere seemed more cohesive and productive as we all gave and received help from one another. This is a good sign that things are coming together for most people and we are starting to use what we have learned through the week. The pace was slowed down a notch and learning to navigate Flickr and learning how to make motivational posters was a very good learning tool as we took direction from Dave but learned through trial and error at the same time. This exercise was fun at the same time and relevant because I will use it and show it to others. As an instructor it is important to remember that students will be most motivated to learn when learning is fun. Is is nice to learn something that we can use for fun. I went from having little information for my topic, to progressing rather well as I did some surfing and video watching to research my topic. This information will be put to use and incorporated in my workplace. I have a better understanding of working in Moodle and UPEI uses Moodle, this is empowering, as I have only used moodle from a students view. Yet again I picked up a few more new software names such as Vuze ,Torentz, Jigbo, FTP and tech words like seed. I am all for self-directed learning but am not one to spend my evenings on the computer unless I have work to do, so I would never have learned all of these words, software and practice in my lifetime without this course. Today was less instuction and more exploration and hands on, I learned alot this way. As I reflect back on the week and continue to fill in my literacies section, I note that there are many new words that are starting to become familiar and sotfware programs. I had used wikis in a previous course as a communication tool but did not really have much knowledge of them other than typing comments. Now I know the difference between a wiki, blog and discusion forum and the benefit or application of one as opposed to the other. The content management systems Moodle, SAM and Drupal are much better understood. There seem to be alot of social networking systems that people can belong to, I had not been aware of many of these. I do have a better understanding of how one could benefit from choosing to have one for getting information from colleagues and one for personal connections. My technological awareness has certainly been heightened. I see the application for social networking in my area of work and would like to have a place to connect and share with other professionals in the future, I think they would like this too. In the long run it saves alot of work. As we said ,why have everyone looking for the same answers.

I loved reading your
I loved reading your comments. It made me understand what must have went on in the class today. I feel that I missed so much. I am really interested in these new words, like Vuze, Torentz, Jigbo, and FTP. If you could expand on their meanings or their uses, it would be great
Thanks

Expanding on the terms
Susan,
Here is my understanding of the terms:
Torentz- a site for downloading info. from the web. It is not necessarily safe. You simply type in a tpoic and it will give you all kinds of choices , you can also check to see if anyone had problems downloading things, kind of like a review of how the site worked for them.
Jigbo and FTP are supposed to be more of the same, we didn't look at these sites, Dave just mentioned the names.
Vuze- is another media platform system, like the others mentioned, but it is credited as a legal site to download software, so hopefully there is less chance for problems.
Hope this helps a bit.
Leslie
